The climate crisis is an existential threat to humanity.
It’s also a leading driver of human rights violations. Around the world, corporate and corrupt interests are putting profits before people—and the planet.
The Fund for Global Human Rights supports grassroots activists who are developing community-based solutions to environmental issues, reimagining alternatives to resource extraction, and building the foundations of a sustainable future for all.
How We Support Climate Justice

Investing in Frontline Community Action
Government and corporate actors are uprooting entire villages and destroying ecosystems through fossil-fuel extraction, mineral exploitation, and profit-driven development. We help activists challenge them—in communities, in courts, and in the streets.

Promoting Indigenous Peoples’ Land Rights
For centuries, Indigenous communities have defended their ancestral territory—while colonial governments have stolen their lands and disrupted their livelihoods. We support movements led by Indigenous communities to steward and safeguard their lands.

Supporting Inclusive Climate Justice Movements
While the climate crisis affects everyone, it does not affect everyone equally. We fund movements led by historically marginalized or at-risk communities to address the root causes of climate change and ensure a just future for everyone.

Standing with Environmental Defenders
Record numbers of environmental defenders have been killed in recent years. We work closely with frontline activists and movements to ensure they have the support, solidarity, and protection they need to continue their critical work or relocate to safety.
Our Climate Justice Strategy
We believe that a global crisis demands inclusive solutions. Communities who are on the front lines of climate change are best placed to develop, implement, and scale innovative solutions to the climate crisis. We invest in the wisdom and community-based power of grassroots activists and advocates in every geography where we work to enable cross-movement, cross-regional climate action.
