LGBTQ+ Rights

Everyone should be free to love who they love—and be who they are.

But after decades of progress, the rights of LGBTQ+ people are under attack. A dangerous coalition of anti-rights groups and authoritarian regimes is manufacturing moral panics and pushing policies to roll back hard-fought wins.

In every region where we work, the Fund for Global Human Rights supports fearless activists who are defending the rights of LGBTQ+ people—and fighting for social, economic, and political equality in the face of oppression.

How We Support LGBTQ+ Equality

Challenging Entrenched Social Prejudices

Contrived gender norms are strictly—and often violently—enforced to police how LGBTQ+ people live their lives. We fund activism that resists these deep-rooted sources of discrimination through inclusive community building and joyful self-expression.

Building Cross-Movement Collective Power

The fight for LGBTQ+ rights is part of a diverse global struggle for justice and dignity. We help grantee partners foster solidarity between rights movements, collaborating across borders and issues to create lasting change.

Enshrining Equality in Law

Few countries offer formal protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. We help activists overturn antiquated (often colonial) statutes, shape inclusive policies, and push for equal rights.

Ensuring Access to Justice and Dignity

LGBTQ+ people are often excluded from social services, employment, and other fundamental rights. We support groups who work at the community level to ensure that LGBTQ+ people can access health care, legal aid, safe shelter, and more.
